Therapy for Children & Families

““Therapy that meets kids and teens where they are.”

At Soul Story Therapy, we believe that each stage of development brings unique challenges and incredible opportunities for growth. Whether it’s a preschooler struggling with big emotions, a preteen feeling overwhelmed by social pressures, or a teen navigating identity, anxiety, or self-esteem, therapy can offer a safe and empowering space.

We support children ages 3 through 18, because growing up is hard, and no one should have to do it alone. Below, we have listed some ways we help each age group and how we involve parents and family in the process. If our approach resonates with you, please give us a call to explore how we can support your family’s journey.

We’re proud to offer the following specialized services designed to meet a variety of needs:

  • Play Therapy (Ages 3-12)

  • Preteen & Adolescent Therapy (Ages 9-18)

  • Parent & Family Involvement

Children Ages 3-12

Play Therapy

Young children often express themselves best through play. Our licensed therapists use toys, art, movement, and storytelling to help kids explore emotions, build coping skills, and develop confidence—all in a warm, ageappropriate setting.

Common reasons families seek play therapy:

  • Tantrums, emotional outbursts, or trouble self-regulating

  • Anxiety, sleep disturbances, or separation issues

  • Adjusting to divorce, loss, or major life transitions

  • Difficulty in school or peer relationships

Preteen & Adolescent Therapy

As kids grow, so do their internal worlds. Therapy can be a place for tweens and teens to explore their identity, process difficult experiences, and build healthy communication and emotional regulation skills.

We help teens work through:

  • Anxiety, depression, or low self-worth

  • Peer conflict or bullying

  • Academic stress and perfectionism

  • Family changes or relationship struggles

  • Questions around gender identity, sexuality, or belonging

  • Feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or emotionally stuck

Parent & Family Involvement

“We believe that therapy is most effective when it’ s supported at home.”

Let us help you reorganize and develop a better flow in your relationships so that you can improve family dynamics and break general patterns that have negatively impacted you and your family. We welcome whoever you define as “family” on a journey of striving to respect, communicate, understand, and enjoy one another. We are honored to work with both biological and chosen families through the process of realignment to find love and laughter again, no matter what the presenting problem may be. Our therapists collaborate with caregivers to ensure consistency, provide tools for communication, and build strong emotional bridges between family members.

Families go through huge changes over a lifetime and it can be difficult to remain united through it all. Your therapist will work with all of you in an interactive way to involve all participants to help improve connection, navigate transitions, or resolve ongoing conflict. We also offer parent coaching to support behavior strategies, routines, and emotion regulation at home.

The structure and connection of a family can often be compromised when there is loss of a loved one, divorce, marriage, loss of trust, life transitions, or when children come of age. Soul Story Therapy will support your family by building deeper understanding and teaching skills to evolve and grow together instead of apart.

If you feel your family may benefit from therapy, call today for a free phone consultation.

What you can expect when you add us to your team:

  • We start with a caregiver consultation (and teen intake if applicable) to understand your goals and concerns

  • Your child or teen is matched with a therapist who specializes in their age and needs

  • Sessions are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and tailored to each individual

  • Regular check-ins with caregivers help keep therapy aligned with progress at home and school

“Therapy doesn’t always
have to mean something is wrong.”
